No one likes doing chores, but proper yard maintenance is something that can’t be ignored lest your neighbors and home owner associations become very irate. Keeping your yard looking neat and tidy doesn’t have to become a major ordeal though. Create a schedule of yard work that has to be completed and when it should be done. Include any required outdoor maintenance tasks on this schedule so that you won’t forget about them, and so that your house remains in good repair. When the time to work on your yard inevitably rolls around, make a checklist of the tasks you need to accomplish and hold yourself accountable to that list.
There are some simple maintenance chores that can go a long way to keeping the exterior of your home and yard looking well-ordered. Prune trees, shrubs, and bushes liberally. Not only will this aid the health of your plants, but it will help prevent them from becoming overgrown. Clean up borders by removing dead branches and leaves from plants, and neaten pathways and patios by sweeping off loose gravel and dirt. If needed, fill in any borders that have been washed away with new gravel. Finally, ready your yard for summer by fixing dead grass patches – apply seed and fertilizer so that come springtime you have a nice green lawn!
